VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

stephen harper

so much for the left-wing media bias. it seems as though a majority of the coverage of the possible coalition government taking power from harper’s minority has been very biased against it. DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THE COVER OF THE EDMONTON SUN?!?!?! SHOCKING! they even had the nerve to print that ‘now our politicians want to cast aside the will of the people.’ SERIOUSLY?

first of all, i’m tired of hearing the word ‘overthrown’ as if we’re in the middle of the french revolution and stephane dion will be carting a guillotine into parliament. second of all, what’s all this talk of canadians giving the conservatives the ‘mandate’ to govern in the last election? WTF? did i miss something? i thought the conservatives were elected by a minority of voters meaning that they had to work with the other parties in order to make our government productive. it’s like the idea of a coalition government is completely fucking foreign after months of talking about co-operation and working together in the run up to the election. is a coalition not the ultimate representation of co-operation? if the conservatives can’t or won’t bring the parties together and make parliament work then i fully support the opposition parties taking power and doing it themselves. this is not some undemocratic underhanded seizure of power. these parties received 62% of the vote and should they decide to organize themselves then they should be given a chance to govern.

this is democracy and i’m glad the people who voted for either of the 3 coalition parties are standing up and having their voices counted. WE ARE THE MAJORITY AND WE DESERVE DEMOCRACY!

addendum:
this post by state of the union gives a good rundown of how our parliamentary system works and is very well informed.

  1. speaking of “off with his head”, remember back to that foiled plan by terrorists to allegedly decapitate Stephen Harper? i’m looking forward to finally seeing it, even if it’s just figuratively.

i guess we’ll have to wait and see what the Gov. General does. . . . i had this hilarious thought that she should tell Harper to fuck off and then suggest that she replace Dion as the leader of the coalition gov’t. i’d pay just to see the look on both those men’s faces.

  2. good call thomas! ALL HAIL MICHAELLE JEAN!

  3. apparently Harper got his wish to stall parliament until the end of January. but if the coalition is sincere in its commitment to remove the conservatives from power (i have strong doubts), then it’s only a matter of time. . .

  4. this might be extremely naive but maybe they can all put their differences aside and work something out…

i predict a holiday season filled with annoyed anti-coalition commercials with stephen harper sat uncomfortably in front of a fire place.
